“Peaceful Summer Days”

Green calm below, blue quietness above.

John Greenleaf Whittier

For a good spell, we were spending a lot of time in the Alpena area.  During these days we were blessed to be able to explore some of the trails in the State Parks & Recreation areas in our neighboring county.

One of the most diverse and interesting hikes in the area definitely can be found at Rockport State Recreation Area just North of Alpena.  This is probably the most popular “destination” there.  What you are looking at is an actual sink hole which looks to be spring fed and makes up a nice little lake nowadays.  Such a peaceful stop at the end of an endlessly beautiful hike which takes you through a good variety of forest biomes.
