“Be a Light”

This photo from the Reid Lake Foot Travel Area reminds me of the mandate of Christians to be a light to all the world around them.  As photographers, we deal in the physics of light a lot.  There’s a lot of clichés among photographers about “chasing light” or “capturing light”.  It’s very true – cliché doesn’t happen for no reason, after all.  Photography literally transforms light photons into photos.

It is funny how God works.  I learned a lot about light as I grew as a photographer how to “follow” it, how to use it to accentuate the desired look, when to shoot into it and, when not to.  Little did I know, regarding light, that I was being prepared by God for the future He had planned for me – if only I would listen.

Eventually, I did get the message.

Being a light applies to our walk in faith in so many ways.  Sometimes we are to lead, sometimes we are to follow, still other times, we are to wait and see how things develop.  Being a light concerning faith is not always in the ways that people may think.  We are not supposed to “keep silent” regarding our love for Jesus.  Whether we are to talk now or later , we must speak when God grants us the discernment to do so.  We must listen.  Whichever way our light is to shine, it is obvious and clear that we are not supposed to keep His love and saving grace all to ourselves.

Our job is to share the Word to all who will receive it.

We are to proclaim truth to the world whether it is uncomfortable, inconvenient, offensive, or causes conflict.  If we do not, we are not being obedient to the Word.

(Matthew 5:14-16) “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. {15} Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. {16} Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

About the Photo:
Taken at the Reid Lake Foot Travel Area (near M-72 entry).

This photo was taken a couple years back near our home in Glennie.  This is a simple typical scene along a beautiful trail system we have come to deeply appreciate and love for its closeness to our home and for the unfettered nature we’re able to immerse ourselves within.  You’re admiring the simple beauty of the Reid Lake Foot Travel Area located in the Huron National Forest.  While these national forests aren’t as prolific and popular as the National Parks, we are grateful for the protected areas in this system that is allowed to remain “unfarmed”.  I do wish for more of this.

The light here was simply amazing as it created a beautiful glow amidst the treetops and filled our hearts with the wonder at God’s beauty.  Like the sun, we are to be God’s light.

If we can enjoy such peace and beauty here on earth, just imagine how amazing heaven is going to be.

We hope you love this scene as much as we do.

Available in all of our popular formats! And, of course, custom options available upon request.
