Beside the Still Waters

A little gratefulness for the New Year…

I know we tend to post about our little favorite spot here at Little Trout Lake fairly often.  It stands to reason; I suppose – since this trail is such a beautiful blessing and also such a convenient and locally close spot for us to be able to enjoy God’s creation.  We find that it is often the only place we have time to visit.  As such, Jess and I are endlessly grateful to have such an interesting and ever-changing place nearby.  So are our pups, too.

It is so infrequent that we encounter other folks at this beautiful little lake, that it often seems that God has provided us this location solely for our peace and respite.

Obviously, this is not true.  There are moments in life where God does all that is possible to ensure our needs are taken care of – if even it is simply a bit of peace and quiet amidst a tumultuous world.  He does not wish for our pain and suffering, after all.  Those are all byproducts of the evil brought into this world by the devil.

Jess and I didn’t get much opportunity this year for our nature and landscape photography work.  We didn’t really get to travel for our own enjoyment (which is what this is for us, 100% enjoyment).  But we sure did appreciate every moment we were allowed to spend here at this spot and in the other beautiful spots around home that we are blessed to be near and enjoy.  Grateful to the utmost.  Since this location is only a short drive from home, it is consequently where we are able to find the peace and quiet of God’s beautiful creation when we need it most but lack the time for a full-scale “adventure”.

Peace at Little Trout Lake

This autumn had us moving out of our comfort zone more than usual.  This captured moment of peace was well needed when we had these spare moments.  The peace this photo represents is why it is one of my favorite photos from this last year.  Not only because it is beautiful, but because of the total peace it represents.  It is super rare that these waters are so glassy smooth, as this spot is typically at least a little breezy.  God knew we were there for a beautiful rest.  So, he guided us directly to the stillest waters we’ve ever seen on the Reid Lake Trail.  As you can see, there’s only a slight hint of a ripple here and there.

This brings to mind what is probably the most well-known Psalm:

(Psalms 23:1-6) “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. {2} He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. {3} He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. {4} Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. {5} Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. {6} Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

Every single day is a blessing folks.  I pray you will enjoy your day for what it is and not dismiss it for what it is not.  Always be grateful for what God sends.  It is precisely what we need.

Happy and Blessed New Year to everyone!
